どうにも放っておけない音楽/The Royal Concept

スウェーデンのストックホルム出身のバンド、The Royal Concept。
御世辞にもあまり格好いいとはいえないバンド名であるが、どうにも放っておけない音楽を鳴らしている。

EPを聴いてまず思ったのは”Phoenixに似ている”ということであるが、同じことを感じた人は多いようで、iTunesのレビューや他のブログでもPhoenixに似ているということが仕切りに言われている。
#1 Gimme Twice、#4 D-D-Danceは特にPhoenixを彷彿とさせるし（＃１はアルバム「Wolfgang Amadeus Phoenix」に収録されたGirlfriendという曲を連想させる）、#2 Goldrushed、#3 Knocked UpなんかはThe Strokesっぽくもあったりする（ボーカルの声にかけたエフェクトと電子的な音から、特にアルバム「Angles」のテイストに近いものを感じる）。

この曲は、PhoenixのLisztmaniaという曲（アルバム：Wolfgang Amadeus Phoenixに収録）に非常に近い雰囲気を持っている。

上記動画ではバンド名がThe Conceptとなっているが、こちらは元々のバンド名で、たまたま同名のバンドがいたことから途中でThe Royal Conceptへと改称したとのこと。

2012年7月24日にリリースされた「The Royal Concept EP」が事実上のデビュー盤であったり、Wikipediaにもまだバンドの記事がなかったりと、まさにデビューしたてのバンドであるが、このEPは非常に面白い。
